The first marketing milestone
Five real customers or referral relationships — not vanity metrics.
Followers, impressions and likes are not the target. Five people or practices who have used the service and would use it again is a business; ten thousand followers who have never booked is an audience.
The seven-step approach
Each step narrows the work. By the end you should have a short list of people you have actually spoken to, and a record of what they said.
Pick one segment
Choose a single customer group and learn it properly. Six segments approached casually will teach you less than one approached seriously.
- Concierge and primary-care practices
- Senior communities
- Home-health relationships
- Specialty and wellness practices where appropriate
- Direct-pay consumers in a defined local market
- Research and specialty-testing organizations
Build a 25-50 prospect list
Track organization, contact, role, date, response, objection and next action. A list turns vague marketing into a process you can work through and measure.
Lead with the problem
Do not begin with a long company story. Explain the operational problem you solve for this specific customer, in one sentence they would recognise as their own.
Ask for a small first opportunity
A single patient or a trial workflow lowers the perceived risk for a physician practice or referral partner. Exclusive partnerships are a later conversation.
Follow up
Use a short, respectful cadence. Bring useful information rather than repeating “just checking in” — each contact should give them a reason to reply.
Make referral easy
Every point of friction is a reason to send the patient somewhere else. A referring office should be able to explain your process to a colleague without calling you.
- One clear contact method
- A clear service area
- A clear payment explanation
- A clear order and document process
- A clear laboratory workflow
- Clear completion and exception communication
Earn the second referral
The first referral may come from outreach. The second usually comes from execution. Track them separately, because only the second one proves the service works.
First five clients prospect tracker
Track real outreach. The goal is five customers or referral relationships, not a large follower count.
| Prospect | Type | Contact | Date | Response / objection | Next follow-up | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Copy this structure into a spreadsheet you can actually work from — you will want more than six rows, and you will want to sort it.
Where XpediPro fits
XpediPro supports online booking, scheduling, electronic payments, document collection, automated reminders, appointment status and customer follow-up. The goal is not simply to get the first referral. It is to make the experience professional enough that the patient returns and the referral partner sends the next one.

FAQs
Should I buy ads first?
Not necessarily. Direct outreach provides better early learning because you hear the objections directly. Ads hide them — a prospect who scrolls past never tells you why.
How many times should I follow up?
Use a short professional sequence. Repeated unanswered messages eventually become noise, and the relationship costs more to repair than it would have cost to leave alone.
