The core rule
Equipment follows the service model
Buy enough to deliver the defined service professionally. Add specialized equipment when real demand justifies it — not before.
Almost every expensive early mistake in this business traces back to reversing that order: buying the kit first, then looking for services that justify it.
Main cost categories
Eight areas account for nearly all early spending. Estimate each one before committing to any of them.
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Business setup | Formation, local registration, professional services |
| Insurance | Professional and general liability; other coverage as applicable |
| Clinical supplies | Needles, tubes, PPE, gauze, sharps, labels |
| Transport | Bags, absorbent material, coolers and temperature support where required |
| Technology | Phone, email, scheduling, payment and admin tools |
| Vehicle and travel | Fuel, maintenance, tolls, parking |
| Marketing | Site and domain, simple partner material, outreach |
| Reserve | Cash buffer for low early volume |
Inventory discipline and time
Set reorder points
Set reorder points for critical consumables. Running out of a low-cost supply can cancel a high-value appointment — the tube costs cents, the lost visit costs the whole fee plus the relationship.
Time is a cost
Preparation, travel, collection, lab drop-off, payment, documentation and follow-up all consume productive time. If your pricing only accounts for the minutes with the needle in hand, most of your working day is unbilled.
Equipment and supplies checklist
Mark only what fits your actual service model. Do not buy specialty equipment simply because another operator owns it.
Nothing here is saved — note your selections before leaving the page.
Startup cost worksheet
Fill this in before setting prices. One-time, monthly and per-visit costs total separately, because mixing them is what produces pricing that looks profitable and is not.

Your per-visit total is the floor beneath any price you set. Add owner time at a rate you would accept from an employer.
Where XpediPro fits
Technology is part of startup infrastructure, not an afterthought. Choose tools based on the workflow you intend to run — not because each one is individually inexpensive. Five cheap disconnected tools cost more than one that holds the whole appointment.

FAQs
How much should startup cost?
There is no reliable universal number. Costs move with your service model, your state, your vehicle and your insurance. Build your own worksheet above rather than trusting a figure from another operator's market.
Should I buy a centrifuge?
Only if your defined services and receiving-lab workflow require processing that you are permitted, trained and equipped to perform. Otherwise it is stored capital doing nothing.
